Shangrila (Lower Kachura) Lake

Gilgit-Baltistan
Cold deserts, turquoise lakes and the gateway to K2
Skardu is the capital of Baltistan and the staging point for expeditions into the Karakoram, including Concordia and K2 base camp.
Even without a big trek, the region rewards a week: Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes, the Katpana cold desert, Shigar and Khaplu valleys, and the Deosai Plains at over 4,000 m.

Deosai is usually accessible from late June to September. Skardu itself is pleasant from May to October.
