Overview
Hunza sits along the Karakoram Highway at roughly 2,400 m, a string of villages built on terraces above the Hunza River. Karimabad is the natural base, with Baltit and Altit forts anchoring centuries of local history.
The valley works for almost every kind of traveller: relaxed viewpoint mornings, day hikes to glaciers and meadows, and easy road trips onward to Attabad Lake, Passu and the Khunjerab Pass.

April brings cherry and apricot blossom, June to September is the reliable travel window, and October delivers the famous autumn colours.

How to get there
- Fly Islamabad to Gilgit (about 1 hour), then drive roughly 2.5 hours north on the Karakoram Highway.
- Drive Islamabad to Hunza via the Karakoram Highway, usually split across two days with an overnight in Chilas or Naran.
- Private jeep or shared transport connects Hunza with Skardu in around 7–8 hours.
